Good Morning America
The “Good Morning America” is a weekly morning news show aired on ABC television network. The show was launched on 3rd Nov. 1975. The show features general news, breaking news stories, talk, weather, interviews, and special interest stories.
Good Morning America is telecasted live from Times Square Studios in New York City. It became the first show for getting aired in HDTV.
Good morning America was launched to compete with “The today show” on NBC television network, but the show could not impress audience in beginning. However, Good morning America edged out “the today show” in the early 1990s and became highly popular morning news program in the United States. The show won the ratings battle against NBC's The Today Show.
In beginning, Good morning America was a talk show hosted by David Hartman who was later joined by co-host. Nancy Daussault and Sandy Hill hosted the show for some sime, but by Joan Lunden, an anchor for WABC in New York, replaced Sandy Hill in 1980. Hartman and Lunden led the show to success.
Hartman retired in February 1987 and Lunden was paired with Charles Gibson. Good Morning America's rating skyrocketed under Lunden and Gibson.
Good morning America scaled the peaks success and popularity in 1990s. It became a highly famous “breakfast television programs.” The show featured regular new about the business and stock market and documentary information, and Lunden and Gibson became popular anchors of the show. Good morning America reached the heights of popularity under the anchoring of Lunden and Gibson.
However, in 1995, Good morning America witnessed a dip in its rank. The reason cited for the decline was unsuitable time to telecast business news in the show. Lunden left the show in 1997. Lunden was replaced by Lisa McRee. The show was almost came to an end when Gibson, too, left the show to make way for Kevin Newman in 1998. ABC revived Good morning America in 1999. Charles Gibson and Diane Sawyer were paired for anchoring the show.
Charles Gibson, the longtime anchor of Good Morning America, left the show on June 28, 2006 to become the lead anchor at ABC News. Good morning America is currently hosted by Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts.
