Film Production Equipment

Everybody likes movies and we know the most important aspect of making movies is the people – the stars, producers, director, writers, and all the other people who contribute their skills and talents. But we wouldn't have those movies at all if it weren't for lots and lots of equipment.

Of course, the camera is probably the most important item in the film production equipment lineup. Cameras designed for use in filmmaking are highly specialized pieces of equipment. They are being improved, revamped, re-engineered, and otherwise adapted for particular purposes on an almost constant basis.

A well-stocked production company will have an assortment of cameras in its inventory of film production equipment and it will have a myriad of camera accessories, too. An assortment of lenses will most likely be needed to capture images in perfect fashion.

Some movies are shot in exotic or remote locations. Others rely on weather conditions to create the desired atmosphere. Some movies are action packed and need cameras to move fast enough to keep up with the action. For these specialized applications, film production equipment technology has developed any number of ways to support, transport, and weatherize the cameras used for these shoots.

Some camera support equipment that might be needed in a well-stocked film production equipment list include cranes, lifts, booms, jibs, dollies, tracks, tripods, and stabilizers. To transport the cameras while filming, cars, trucks, and motorcycles are often included in the list of needed film production equipment. In many cases, specialized film production equipment will need to be developed for use in unique situations.

Specialized equipment for enhancing audio and video effects need to be a part of the film production equipment. Lighting and climate control machinery will be needed to create the desired effect since it is impossible to rely on natural lighting and weather patterns.

Computers and their supporting software and peripheral machinery will be instrumental additions to the film production equipment list. Computers are widely used for animation, compositing, imaging, capturing motion, and editing.

Stunt work and special props will require specialized film production equipment. Scenes calling for these effects will be shot more smoothly when all the details of these items have been planned, designed, and constructed before it's time to shoot those scenes. Equipment to create them is a vital part of a well-stocked film production equipment inventory.

All this specialized, weatherized, and modified equipment is going to need a power supply. Electric generators and an ample supply of back-up batteries are required to keep filming on schedule.

It seems like equipment breaks down only when you need it the most and all the film production equipment used to shoot a movie is only good when it's working properly. A ready supply of tools and spare parts should be included in your equipment inventory. Your equipment repair kit might be the real hero of the day, especially on remote locations.
